Boating, fishing and hiking are popular at Hickory Knob State Park.
Species of fish resident at Strom Thurmond Lake include bass, hybrid, crappie, perch and stripers. A boat ramp provides private boat access to Strom Thurmond Lake. Boat docks are available for overnight guest on a first-come, first-served basis. Kayaks rent for $3/30 minutes; $5/hour; $7/half day or $12/day.
Golf facilities include an 18-hole championship golf course, clubhouse, practice green, driving range, pro shop and lounge.
For hikers and bikers there is a challenging bike/hiking trail which is approximately 12 miles in length, travels through a pine forest, along the lake's edge."Beaver Run (2.5 miles)". There are two other hiking trails including the7.2 mile “Lakeview Loop” and the 1.7 mile "Turkey Ridge" trail.
