Boating, fishing and hiking are popular at Hamilton Branch State Recreational Area. Species of fish resident in Strom Thurmond Lake include bass, bream, crappie, striper, hybrid bass and catfish. Two boat ramps provide private boat access to the lake. For hikers, the park provides an access point to a short bike trail called Steven's Creek Bike Trail which connects to a much longer trail, the Stevens Creek Trail following Stevens Creek.
