Welcome to our review of Fort Clinch State Park campgrounds.

General Information:
Fort Clinch State Park is located in the northeastern most tip of Florida near Fernandina Beach. Fort Clinch is one of the most well-preserved 19th century forts in the country, used as a military post during both the Civil and Spanish-American wars. Camping is available at the Atlantic Beach and Amelia River campgrounds within the park. Big rigs are better suited at the Atlantic Beach campground than at the Amelia River campground.

Beautiful View:
This Atlantic Beach campground (known as “the Beach” campground”) has views of sand dunes, with the ocean beach just beyond that but not within direct view of the campsites (some sites do have partial views). You can hear the pounding of the surf from campsites here. This campground has an open format, scattered with palm trees and has very little shade. The “Beach” campground is more popular with less spacious campsites and very little to no privacy between sites compared to the “River” campground. A beautiful serene beach is within walking distance from the Beach campground. The Amelia River campground is near, but not within viewing distance, of the Amelia River. Tall beautiful oak trees separate the spacious well-shaded campsites in this area. This 1,427 acre park is filled in many areas with live oaks draped with Spanish Moss. Look at the campground maps available at the Reservations website (accessed through the state park website) for the proximity of the campsites to the Atlantic Ocean and Amelia River.

As always, for a better sense of the views available at this campground or any campground featured in Camping With A View, make sure you look at the photos and read some of the reviews from other campers by clicking on the links found in the campground menu at the top of this page.

Campground Details:
The campground includes 62 sites, including four group tent sites. All the RV sites are back-in with 20-30amp electrical service (most having water connections as well). RV lengths between 18 - 48 feet can be accommodated. There is a dump station, potable water, modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers and laundry facilities. All Florida state parks are open year-round; but there may be restrictions on the camping season. Call the state park for more information on campground opening and closing dates. For more information on the state park or campground call 904-277-7274.

Summary:
Fort Clinch State Park offers two distinct types of camping experiences with completely different scenery. Beautiful ocean dunes with the pounding surf of the ocean in the Atlantic Beach campground and live oak trees draped with Spanish moss next to a quiet, serene river in the Amelia River campground. Two “beautiful” and “serene” campgrounds as described by other campers’ first hand experiences. I don’t think you’ll go wrong by visiting Fort Clinch State Park if you’re looking for a camping experience filled with beautiful views.
