Welcome to our review of Alafia River State Park campground.
General Information:
Alafia River State Park is located ten miles southeast of Tampa close to the Gulf of Mexico in the town of Lithia, Florida. It’s known for a variety of recreational activities including mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, and horse riding. The Alafia off-road bike trails are challenging and are considered to be some of the best in the area. Canoeing and fishing on the river or one of several river fed lakes are also popular; and horse riding and hiking are available in approximately 20 miles of equestrian trails.
Beautiful View:
Alafia River State Park campground lays at the bottom of a reclaimed mine in an open, well-manicured grassy area bordering a small lake. There aren’t any trees or other vegetation separating campsites, but sites are nicely spaced which helps to lessen the lack of privacy between them. Campsites 4, 6, 25 and 30 have views of the lake and all sites view the attractive, well manicured grassy area in the middle. The most beautiful views and landscapes are found in areas of the park outside the campground, especially on the biking, hiking and equestrian trails and along the river.

Campground Details:
There are 30 camp sites at this campground, all with fifty amp electrical service and water hookup. About half of these sites are pull-thru and all the sites are rated as being able to accommodate RVs of up to 55 feet. Other amenities include modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, potable water and a dump station. All Florida state parks are open year-round; but there may be restrictions on the camping season. Call the state park for more information on campground opening and closing dates. Summary:
Alafia River State Park, best known for it its varied elevations in terrain and challenging bike trails, also has a campground with scenic views of a lake and open, grassy, meadow-like area. This should be a great relaxing campground to use as a base for exploring the many beautiful views found throughout this state park.
