A description of this campground can be found at the following web site: U.S. National Forest Campground Guide After going to this site, depending on your web browser, you may need to scroll down to the name of this campground. Campgrounds are in alphabetical order. Below is an excerpt of comments about this campground found at this site:

"...The campground, located in Red Canyon adjacent to State Rt. 12, is composed of two loops - A and B. The loops are separated by a dry wash with some sites in both loops adjacent to the seasonal Red Canyon Wash. Ponderosa pine and juniper provide shade to the camp sites and the surrounding Red Canyon offers fantastic views. Loop A is flatter with fewer shrubs while Loop B has many of the camp sites located along a hillside and set deeper into the trees. This Loop also has a few Douglas fir and a wide variety of shrubs. Privacy between camp sites is excellent. Traffic noise from Rt. 12 can be heard throughout the campground...

... Although composed of the same Claron limestone formation as nearby Bryce Canyon, Red Canyon is a deeper red. Butch Cassidy was raised not to far from Red Canyon. It is said many of his hideouts were located throughout the Canyon. In fact, it is alleged one of his food storage locations is found along the Arches Trail. Visit the Red Canyon Amphitheater in Loop B above camp site 23. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) between 1933 and 1936 and is a designated historic site...

...The campground is a good base camp to an extensive trail system (most modes, i.e., foot, ATV, horse, etc.) in and out of Red Canyon. Drop by the Forest Service Visitor Center 0.5 miles west of the campground on State Rt. 12 and, among other things, obtain brochures/maps on the trails. Visiting Bryce Canyon National Park is a must day trip - it's only about 13 miles from the campground...

... While at the campground, consider hiking the Buckhorn Trail (foot only). It departs out of Loop B and is rated by the Forest Service as moderate to strenuous. The authors hiked it and found the vegetation along the way and views of Red Canyon and the distant mountains to the west absolutely fabulous. After about 0.3 miles, one has a choice to turn left or continue straight. The authors continued straight which took them over a ridge line. For some with a fear of heights, this might not be a good option. For those who suffer such a malady, turning left seemed to be a better choice...

...The parking aprons are paved. The campground can accommodate any size RV..."
