"...The campground, located along Lake Barkley, is quiet and known for quality fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities. It enjoys the benefits of a dense stand of mixed hardwoods which encourage visits from wildlife. The area is particularly popular with bald eagles, deer and turkeys. The campground has a loop and half-mile long spur. Along the spur are four camp sites, and at its end, are several more. As with sites in the loop, many along the spur overlook the lake, but in addition, they are secluded and very pleasant to park an RV or pitch a tent. Generally, the campground is covered with groomed grass and is a delightful place to enjoy fishing, boating, or just "kicking back." Boats can be moored close to or at some camp sites. At the end of the spur are several foundations where a general store/gas station and homes used to be. During the late 50s, early 60s, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) removed the structures to make room for Lake Barkley. Possible day trips are the North and South Welcome Stations, Golden Pond Visitor Center, the Planetarium, Elk and Bison Prairie, Woodlands Nature Station, and The Homeplace...
...The parking aprons and interior roads are gravel...
... RV waste stations with potable water are available, at no charge to FS campers, at Golden Pond Visitors Center (south on "The Trace") and North Welcome Station (north on State Rt. 453)...
...The bath house, with flush toilets, is heated and located on hill at entrance to campground. A water line with hose attachments runs length of loop. There is no potable water along or at end of spur...
...Lake Barkley is 59,900 acres. There are two boat ramps - one at campground entrance and the other (primitive) at end of spur..."
